Today, in his birth village of Globoçeni, the 112th anniversary of the birth of the prominent writer of Macedonian origin, Sterjo Spasse, was commemorated. On this occasion, a delegation of the Macedonian Alliance for European Integration (MAEI) laid flowers in front of his bust and paid tribute to his life and literary work.
Sterjo Spasse (1914–1989), born in Globoçeni, Prespa, and deceased in Tirana, is one of the significant founders of modern Albanian literature. His oeuvre is deeply connected with his native Prespa, Macedonian tradition, and the cultural heritage of Macedonians in Albania.
Spasse left behind a significant literary opus as a writer, anthologist, translator, textbook author, and collector of Macedonian folklore. Through his work, he represented a unique bridge between cultures, conveying the life, traditions, and stories of Prespa to the broader public.
Globoçeni and Prespa are rightfully proud of their fellow countryman, who left a lasting mark on Albanian literature and represents a significant contribution of Macedonians to the cultural and social life of Albania.
MAEI stated that the memory of Sterjo Spasse and his work should continue to be nurtured and passed on to future generations:
“May his work serve as a lasting reminder that culture connects people, transcends borders, and lives on even as generations change.”
