The president of the Macedonian Alliance for European Integration (MAEI), Vasil Sterjovski, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the International Festival “Dance Festival in Pogradec”, emphasizing that folklore represents a bridge of friendship, understanding, and cooperation among peoples.
In his welcoming remarks, Sterjovski stated that it is a special honor and privilege to be part of this festival, which, according to him, promotes the finest values of cultural heritage and contributes to strengthening friendship among nations.
He extended a warm welcome to all folklore ensembles and participants, warmly greeting guests from Albania, Macedonia, and Bulgaria in particular.
“Your presence is proof that culture and art are bridges that connect people and foster mutual understanding beyond any borders,” Sterjovski emphasized.
In his speech, he highlighted that folklore is a living heritage that preserves the identity, history, and spirit of nations, proudly passing down traditions from generation to generation.
“Through song, dance, and folk costumes, we express our highest values—respect, solidarity, and unity—proving that culture is a universal language that brings us closer together, unites us, and builds bridges of understanding and friendship among peoples,” noted the president of MAEI.
Speaking about the importance of the host city, Sterjovski praised Pogradec, noting that with its rich history, hospitality, and natural beauty, it has always been a place where different cultures and traditions meet.
He expressed his conviction that the International Festival “Dance Festival in Pogradec” will continue in the future to serve as a space for strengthening friendships, deepening cooperation, and promoting mutual respect among nations.
Concluding his address, Sterjovski emphasized that preserving and transmitting cultural heritage to younger generations is a shared responsibility, aiming to ensure that tradition remains an enduring value that unites peoples and makes them proud of their roots.
